I can remember going to Littlehampton for day trips when I was a child - the beach is SO great for kids of all ages. Now we live in Bognor Regis just 10 miles along the coast so Littlehampton makes an easy and fun day out for my kids. Money is being invested in Littlehampton so along the mouth of the river Arun is a great place to buy up a new apartment or stroll along between beach and town. Stop on the way for a portion of chips or an ice cream dipped in chocolate! Harbour Park is a great place for the kids with rides and activities for all ages. There is a lake with pedaloes for hire. The tide goes out a long way to provide plenty of sand. The ea doesn''''t get deep for ages so its a great place for kids to play safely. As if there wasn''''t enough space on the beach, across the prom is a fabulous stretch of grass which is often populated with kite flyers and people playing ball games. There are playgrounds for the little ones and cafes regularly along the beach. There is crazy golf, train rides, gardens and play areas. It really is ideal for all ages. Keep walking up the prom to the beach huts and quieter beaches of Rustington. In the town there are enough shops although you are probably not going to go broke here! Chip shops galore, plenty of pubs, restaurants and other places to eat. Property is (was before the credit crunch) reasonably priced and going up due to investment in the area so its a good place to buy anything from a beachfront apartment to an old cottage a little further outside the town. Littlehampton is also the home of the Body Shop - the factory is just on the outskirts of town. Nearby is Worthing, Arundel, Bognor Regis and Chichester. Good bus and train services run around the town - you can catch a bus as far as Brighton or Portsmouth.
Note on the Ronnie Barker thing someone else mentioned - I am told he lived down a street called Grenville Street which had a little corner shop at the end - just like Open All Hours!! Don''t know if its true though!

Littlehampton is at the foot of the south downs and the mouth of the River Arun. It is a seaside town and the beaches are glorious. There is a coastguard beach that is family friendly and award winning, perfect for a long sunny day out building sand castles (although there is some shingle- its not all sand)!
Ronni barker lived in littlehampton and the well loved comedy open all hours was based on the town- i have no idea why i know this or why you need to know this but its thrilling stuff!! It just goes to show though just how charming the little village of littlehampton is!
Littlehampton is great for tourists. One of the most popular places to visit is harbour park which has lots of kiddies rides and panning for gold.It is an all weather attraction with lots of things to do indoors, they have a small ice rink in the winter.
The town also has a great golf course, museum, crazy golf and a look and see visitor centre. The west beach is a nature reserve where various birds and creatures live in the sand dunes and shingle.
On the normal beaches you can enjoy windsurfing, kite surfing, diving and fishing.
Littlehampton all round is a great place to visit for all the family.

What a little gem Littlehampton is, just along from Bognor Regis and Worthing and Brighton its a lovely little seaside town. Offering a harbour to sit and watch the boats going past right next to the beach and a park, the ice creams from the little shop opposite the harbour are to die for. Parking round here is really difficult so either accept you have to pay and park in the car park next to the pub or get there early for a free on road space!
There aren''t a lot of shops in the town, but there are enough and a reasonable selection of goods and brand shops are there, travel to Brighton for a better selection.
Most of the houses seem to be on estates which is great for kids and a social life cos they seem to generate more relaxed area for playing out and chatting to the neighbours.

Littlehampton is quite a small seaside town, but I used to enjoy visiting the beach on a warm, sunny day and having fish and chips on the prom. There is a selection of shops and banks in the high street and a big Tescos just on the outskirts of the town.

We are quite new to West Sussex and whilst out exploring we came across Little Hampton. It has a lovely Harbor Park which is great for children. It has an indoor cafe and arcades with lots of teddy machines. Outside it has fairground rides, waltzers, dodgems, log flume, mini roller coaster, crazy golf and lots more. A favorite with us is the panning for gold. There are two troughs filled with sand and water and little nuggets of "gold" are hidden in them. You get a sieve and a plastic cup and have to get as much gold as you can. At the end they weigh it and the children get a medal. Prices are quite reasonable, the rides work on a token system. Just outside the harbor park is a little inlet to the sea. You can get a crab line from one of the shops and crab bait and go fishing for crabs, you only have to hold it in the water for 30 seconds and a crab will be on the end. When you have finished you put them back of course. There a lots of lovely fish and chip shops and ice cream shops. We have had the best fish there than anywhere else we have been. If you go further along you will come to a lovely beach and there is also a really nice boating lake where you can hire a pedal boat. Little Hampton is a fun day out for all ages whether its for rides, crabbing, or just watching the boats with an ice cream.
