Southwell is a small, picturesque, middle class town located in nottinghamshire about 20 mins drive from nottingham. Features of the town include a large historic cathedral known as the southwell minister which is a focal point of the town. It is unusual because it is very large for the size of the town, it is definetly worth a visit. There is also a historic pub/hotel called the Saracens head dating back to the 12th century which was once visited by King Charles. This is a nice place to stay if you are visiting the town. On the edge of the town is a national trust owned workhouse where you can go on a tour which is worth visiting. The town has a small market place however there are rarely markets on. One of the downsides to the town is the lack of shops around but this is to be expected considering the town itself is small. There are a reasonable selection of pubs including the rodney, the bramley apple, the hearty goodfellow and the coach house. The town has a very good secondary school, called the minster school, which has recently been re built and achieves good league table positions. There is also two good primary schools, lowes wong and holy trinity. Parking in town can be a problem at busy times due to lack of spaces available and recent charges have been introduced in the towns car parks for people staying for more than a few hours. There is a 18 hole good golf course called norwood park on the edge of town with a driving range and a small club house. In conclusion, I would say southwell is a nice pleasant town to visit
