Being a born and bred Devon girl, I feel rather inclined to write this review! I love Devon, despite living here, I still often go away for weekends within Devon as there is so much to see and do here. The weather is also some of the mildest you will get in the Uk with plenty of sunshine and warm days.
Devon is famous for many things, not least Dartmoor and Exmoor that are wild and fascinating places with many stone circles and stone Tors that can be climbed. Haytor is probably the most famous one, with people climbing up or abseling down all summer long. There are beautiful little villages tucked in among the Tors like Widecombe etc. Dartmoor Prison is of course one of the stops on the tourist trail! Exmoor is in north Devon and is wilder than Dartmoor. They both have wild ponies and deer running across them and of course Exmoor has been the inspiration for many writers, with Lorna Doone being set here.
The North Devon coast is much wilder and less touristy than the south. you have places like Barnstaple, an old market town to shop in and Clovelly to explore. Clovelly is famous for its cobbled streets.
Devon is a mecca for walkers and ramblers and anyone who likes outdoor sports really with canoeing and kayaking and cycling and horse riding all available.
South Devon is much tamer than the North, with more of the traditional seaside towns and holidays. Torbay being of course the biggest family holiday area with Torquay, Paignton and Brixham all having such different and yet great facilities to visit, including the Ecological Park that is Paignton Zoo and the SeaLife experience in Torquay. Torquay also has a very swish marina with some very expensive boats on view.
For shopping and an amazing Cathedral you have Exeter and Plymouth is also great for shopping and the quay. It is a naval port so plenty of sailers and pubs around.
If you are interested in fossils and the like then the Jurassic coastline around Dawlish thru to Exmouth etc has plenty to offer as well as being an area of outstanding beauty.
In short, Devon has all you could need for a holiday in the UK, more sunny days than almost anywhere in the country, great beaches, holiday resorts for all the family, stone circles and fossils, adventure sport holidays and of course a whole range of fascinating places to explore.

We have had lots of trips to Devon and have stayed both in the North and the South. This county is in between Dorset and Cornwall.

The North has a very rugged coast line with some very dramatic cliffs and sometimes powerful seas. It has a lot of cliffs and breath taking views, there are some nice beaches though which are fine for bathing. There are some great places to visit, including Clovelly which is a steep coobled street leading down to a small harbour. It has a nice cafe at the top and some lovely nick knack shops alond the street. It is famous as its been used in the Hovis add before! It has sadly become a more commercialised now and you have to pay to walk the street. Due to it being so steep those who aren''t in the best of health may want a ride in the trailer to get back up!! Barnestaple is a great place to shop and has a great indoor market.
The south is very different; it appears more modern touristy and has lots of splendid award winning beaches. Torquay is a very trendy place and is a hit with the younger generation!! It does have some nice coloured dancing water falls though!! We were lucky enough to spot a group of dolphins just off the coast of Dawlish, S. Devon.
Where ever you stay, you know the people are going to be welcoming and there is a good mixture of countryside, townlife and coastal areas. You will find accommodation to suit all tastes and pockets. There are lots of tourist attractions to visit in all of Devon, from The Big Sheep (sheep racing!) to Paignton zoo from country parks to boat trps and plenty more..

Devon is a lovely place I grew up there and Il definately be moving back there with my children within the next year..Its a lovely safe place. I lived in North devon:Ilfracombe and Braunton, both places are lovely. There is lots to do down there whether its shopping in Barnstaple, family days out or going to the beach or just playing on one of the many golf courses. My personal favourite beach is woolacombe with lovely golden sand and you can get lovely ice creams there. In the summer it gets especially busy down there as is great place to take your family on holiday. Theres lots of countryside around you if you enjoy walking or going for picnics and if you go to dartmoor or exmoor you wil probably get sightings of wild horses, rabbits and deer. devon is also well known for its cream teas and scones so you wil find lots of little cafes selling theseI would defiantely recommend going here on holiday.

Devon is one of the most beautiful areas of our country.Bordering cornwall is have two famour moors called exmoor and dartmoor.Dartmoor is larger and is home to the dartmoor ponies which ,you will see alot on your routes through Dartmoor.Exmoor is home to the Exmoor ponies, these are harder to spot as there is not as many of them. The Devonshire coast line is stunning with amazing scenery and beautiful beaches. As a tourist i felt very welcome visiting this area.Barnstable is a large town and i loved shopping there.Bidiford is a nice town to visit.I have stayed in Great Torrington several times and its a cute little town with alot of quirky little unusual shops which i love.I love the fact that Devon is very hilly and have a large number of valleys and cliffes.I would definatley recommend visiting Devon

I lived in Devon for 10 years and loved every second. I attended three different schools here and this is where I grew up, in Plymouth. Summer was always great because we didn''t have to travel far in order to go to the holidaying spot in England, (Devon and Cornwall). There are so many places in Devon that I would choose to live, the list is almost endless. The countryside is beautiful and the beaches (even though many people would say it is too cold to beach in Devon) are always so much fun in the summer time. The cottages, campsites and caravaning sites are the best in the country down in Devon and all so close to the beach that you can not really fault them. I would love to live somewhere in Devon when I am older, it has the best of both worlds, peaceful countryside, and city life. Dartmoor is never far away from anyone with acres and acres of countryside for brilliant walks whether it is mid winter or the height of summer.

I've only lived in Devon for three years, but I love the place. I live within 15 minutes of Dartmoor and half an hour from the coast and the scenery everywhere is just beautiful. Very friendly people - even to us incomers!
